Applying a little mathematical acrobatics, Coach Mike comes to you with over 50 years of swimming and swim coaching experience. Coach Mike began swimming summer league at the age of 8. This led to competitive swimming in high school. After college, he was introduced to Pacific Masters. Coach Mike has been swimming and competing with various masters teams in the east bay area since 1996. In 1997, he began coaching the swim team at James Logan High School in Union City. He coached this team for 21 seasons. Through his high school coaching experience, he has developed an appreciation for swim mechanics and has built an extensive toolbox related to teaching and practicing good swim form as well as correcting improper technique.
In 2009, triathlon training brought Coach Mike to the San Francisco Bay where he met Coach Pedro Ordenes. For the last 15 years, Coach Mike has been focused on open water swimming in the San Francisco Bay. He thoroughly enjoys combining the skills we learn in the pool with the unique aspects of open water swimming to help people correct their form, improve their efficiency and feel good about the mental and physical health benefits that they get from swimming.
Coach Mike is a World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) Level 3 Coach.
