Join San Francisco Swim’s coaches as they teach you the strategies for a successful race from Alcatraz to St. Francis Beach. During our morning clinic, participants will jump from a boat at the same starting point as race day. For 15 minutes, you will practice sighting on landmarks, experience an ebb tide that is similar to race conditions and feel the water temperature of San Francisco Bay. After reboarding the boat, you will be taken to a second jump location for another 15-minute swim. This time, athletes will learn how to navigate the last 1200 yards of the swim course to the actual swim finish line. No surprises here. Put yourself in the same situation you will encounter on race day so that you will know what to expect!
Our evening clinics start on the beach located by the St. Francis Yacht Club, the swim finish for the race and first transition point. Get inside tips on the swim and transitioning to the bike from Coach Kathy Winkler – a 17-time Escape from Alcatraz racer and podium finisher. After Kathy shares her advice, we will hit the water.
We begin by swimming out to a marker buoy which will be the last thing athletes sight to on race day. From the marker, we swim towards the beach and practice the exit. Participants will get a feel for the water temperature and the currents on this practice swim. There’s an option to run the short distance to the main transition area or ask questions on the bike or run course.
