San Francisco Swim is our tribute to the San Francisco Bay swimming community and local Bay legend Pedro Ordenes (1946-2024). Our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming environment that encourages people from any and all walks of life to pursue life-long physical and mental well-being through open water swimming.
It starts on the beach any Sunday morning or Thursday evening. Feel the exhilaration that comes from swimming in 55 – 65 degree Fahrenheit water. Share in the emotion of our community members as we live these experiences and work toward goals together. Work your way up to one of our many unique events in the San Francisco Bay. Would you like a simple, monthly Alcatraz crossing? Perhaps you want something scenic like swimming along side one of the most iconic bridges on the planet. Are you looking for a challenge? We have one for you… Round-Trip Alcatraz (RTA). That’s from shore to around the island and back to shore. Done once per season because that’s a season worth of swimming in one trip.
We are grateful for our dedicated local members that show up to all of our events. Being that San Francisco is an international city, we are proud to say that you will meet people from all over the bay area, United Stated and the world who come out just to participate in our swims. In fact, a driving theme of San Francisco Swim is that “Water brings the World together”.
San Francisco Swim recognizes that we have resources which can be used to help people outside of the immediate open water swimming community. Many people who take on the challenge of swimming from Alcatraz want to apply their registration fee to a charitable organization. We hold several charity swims each year.
Improve your health, strive for challenges, make new friends in a welcoming community and be a part of something bigger than yourself. Check out San Francisco Swim at Aquatic Park and Crissy Field.
